For those of you who've never heard of her, Lauren Weisberger authored "The Devil Wears Prada" and like every teenager, I fell in love with the book. Her characters (read: Miranda Preistly) have great shades to them. Miranda's shown as this fashion magazine tycoon who doesnt give a s**t to the feelings of any other living being, yet, she too is vunerable. Her third (or was it the fourth?) marriage falls apart, and for a moment, only for a micro millisecond, we see her as she is....rich, popular, dictator and unhappy, sad, with no one to go home to.
You must be wondering why I'm focusing on Miranda and not on Andrea, the protagonist...well, Andy is a wonderful character....her dilemma is visible enough, so are her shades. Miranda's more mysterious. Devil Wears Prada was an awesome first novel....but then, I picked up her third book-Chasing Harry Winston-and you know what....she's losing her touch.
I mean, why write a totally bakwas thing about three over thirty, over perfect, over pretty girls whose lives revolve around clothes, screwing guys and booze?? the only character that appealed to me was Leigh, the editor, atleast she had enough grit to get out of a relationship if its bad!
The other girl, Emmy, has no ideology, no self worth, NO MIND?!?!?!?! Because her best friend asks her to get a life, she decided to f**k every guy she sees...........what the hell!!
Adriana, the *ahem* "drop dead gorgeous daughter of a supermodel" is there in the book, only to make the other 2 characters look interesting. and you know what the storyline is.......these 3 girls decide to change their lives "drastically" within a year....aah! (Suprise suprise!!)
I'm sorry, Mrs. Weisberger, you've done a Paulo Coelho yet again.
I only hope that your second book is atleast better than your third.....i'm gonna read it soon.
And guys.....Read 'Chasing......', if all you desire is, in the words of my dear friend, Anubhuti, "shitpot reading"
Happy Whatever.

well...as I said earlier it is really well written, though I doubt if it is right for me to comment upon it seeing that I still haven't read the book!!!But it is written fabulously...i guess i'll read the book and then let yo know if it is 'shitpot reading'
i TOTALLY agree...
the devil wears prada was amazing... but chasing harry winston?
1. the characters are as plastic as barbie dolls.
2. and story? what the hell? i hate books that glorify the lives of 3 'perfect' women who i dont think i can relate to one microscopic bit and who make me feel all depressed after ive done reading it.
3. and the title? what significance does is have to the story at all? did harry winston give this woman money to put his name on her book?
yeeaaahhheee!
totally sakhi...
i completely forgot about the title bit.
u r r8! harry winston who???
